LIN DONG
(b.1994, China, Hebei)
Cloudslin (Lin Dong) is a Chinese painter based between London and China, working primarily in oil painting. His paintings seek to hold on to what is passing. Through different cultural experiences, he returns to the same ideas, bringing them into new visual relationships.
He grew up in northern China and received formal drawing training from an early age. He later made regular visits to Miao communities in southwest China to learn from and experience local culture. These experiences shaped his interest in vernacular visual culture, and the murals of Dunhuang, They also led him to think about how people have imagined the world through myth and visual storytelling.
He studied Fashion Design at Central Saint Martins, where he used dress, fashion and the body to explore the possibilities of painting.
His work has been exhibited in the UK and China, including exhibitions with Small Works CIC at The Minories, Colchester, and with Blackdot Gallery. He also created an installation for an Adidas sustainability art project at TX Mall, Shanghai. His work has been featured in international online exhibitions through Homiens and Small Works CIC.
